If you love rowing and/or building boats—volunteer!

Village Community Boathouse welcomes new rowers and new boatbuilders to return on a regular basis and become part of our community. As you gain rowing experience you will balance out crews with new rowers. Experienced builders in the shop introduce newcomers to tools and materials.

Coxswain Training

Once you are a proficient rower, you can learn to become a certified coxswain. VCB offers a free day-long introductory coxswain training course twice a season. Learn: dock operations and launching a boat; steering and rowing commands; tides and currents, wind and waves, weather; docking and boat recovery; and more.

Membership

After rowing or boatbuilding with VCB for one season, volunteers can apply to become members of VCB. Members pay modest dues, vote in elections for the board of directors, help run public and youth programs, have the opportunity to participate in special rows, and assist in planning and putting on special events.

If you have participated in VCB programs for a year and are interested in taking on a bigger role in the organization, write to us at info@vcb.nyc and tell the board why you want to be a member.
