Village Community Boathouse has a fleet of more than 30 wooden boats, most of which were built in our shop at Pier 40 or by our school partners. We are proud of our unique fleet of handcrafted vessels.
Photo Shoot Rentals
All of the vessels in our fleet—the Whitehall gigs, the pilot gig, the gunning dory, the umiak, and the smaller rowboats—are available for photo and film shoots and other special events. Rental fees help support our free rowing and boatbuilding programs. Click here for a slide show. For more information email info@vcb.nyc.
Boats looking for a home
Our boatbuilders are continually starting new projects. Meanwhile, our boathouse is filling up. If you or your organization would like to acquire one of our extra boats for a very modest donation, email us at info@vcb.nyc. to learn more.
Gigs
Gigs are long, stable rowboats for four or six rowers, steered by a coxswain. We have ten 26-foot Whitehall gigs and a 32-foot pilot gig, King Tide. Used in community and youth rowing programs at Pier 40, gigs are the workhorses of our fleet.
Dories
Our two dories, Warrior and Gold Rush, are stretched versions of the elegant Chamberlain gunning dory. Their natural finish and sleek lines have made them popular for photo shoots, and their light weight makes them a favorite of our racing crews.
Sculling Boats
These boats for one or two rowers have sliding seats and sculling oars, allowing them to go fast in expert hands.
Rowboats
VCB has a number of smaller boats for use in our lake programs.

Other Boats
In addition to wooden rowboats, VCB has built a variety of other kinds of boats.
