Hudson Star Launched!

On Sunday the VCB boatbuilders turned out to salute their new craft, the Hudson Star, and send her out into the river. It was a happy crew that raised their glasses and gave a hearty cheer for our beautiful (creative) replica of the American Star. In addition to the champagne we enjoyed Lynn Kwon's delicious star-shaped cookies. (Recipe on demand)

Frank coxed a crew of four volunteers who took the Star around the basin in a victory lap. Then we lifted her out of the water to launch our gigs to accommodate a large group of Sunday rowers.

In three weeks we will be taking the Hudson Star to the Wooden Boat Show at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CN. Sally and I are going to trailer up on Thursday, June 27. The Star will be on display amongst some of the most beautiful wooden boats in the world and alongside two other copies of the original American Star. The Show is from Friday to Sunday, June 28-30. Mystic Seaport can be easily reached by Amtrak, and several VCB boatbuilders have expressed interest in going up for a day-trip. Let's talk to each other and get some groups together.

In response to an appeal for money to defray the costs of the Mystic trip, almost a dozen members and friends have contributed over $800 in the last two weeks. Thank you! This will cover about half our costs: continued generosity (via our website Donate button) would be much appreciated.
